Toyota Hilux Joins the Indian Army’s Elite Fleet!

Toyota Hilux has been added to the Indian Army’s Fleet. The first batch of Hilux is delivered to the Indian Army by Toyota Kirloskar Motors. Hilux while testing was not only performing well in rough terrains but also in extreme weather conditions ranging from an altitude of 13,000ft to sub-zero temperatures.

After that, the Indian Army’s Technical Evaluation Committee inducted the Toyota Hilux into the fleet. It will serve with the Indian Army’s Northern Command.

Toyota Hilux: Added to the Indian Army’s fleet!

Toyota Hilux also joins the other official SUVs in the Indian Army, like the Maruti Gypsy, Scorpio, Tata Safari Storme, and TATA Xenon pick-up. As I have noted, this is the first time the Indian Army has ordered anything from Toyota Motors. Toyota Hilux gets a 2.8-litre turbocharged diesel engine.

The outstanding off-road capabilities and the reliability make sense as to why Hilux is the new 4×4 addition to the Indian Army’s fleet. Another critical point is that there is no difference between the Army spec and the civilian spec Hilux; we must find out.

Conversely, in an interview, the Indian Army said, “ We are happy to receive the first batch of Toyota Hilux. Toyota Motors has been very supportive in understanding our requirements and customizing the Hilux accordingly.

Chiefly, the purpose of adding Hilux to the fleet was not only its strong off-roading strengths and extreme performance under stringent weather and difficult terrain conditions, but also Hilux outshined through our very stringent road tests, hence meeting all our requirements.”

Indian Army is also considering EVs

As a matter of fact, the Indian Army is also focusing on adding EVs into their fleet for various purposes. Additionally, the Indian Air Force has already been using 12 TATA Nexon EVs for its purposes.

Also, the older units of the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, is serving the Indian Army for almost 2 decades. Now Indian Army is replacing it with the Mahindra Scorpio Classic.

Toyota Hilux: Engine and Transmission

Toyota Hilux gets a 2.8-litre turbo diesel that produces a power of 204hp and a torque of 420Nm and 500Nm of torque in the case of the automatic. Altogether, the Hilux gets a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as transmission options.
